Keen campers can put a summer stay at the beach on their holiday to-do list now that Muriwai Motor Camp is scheduled to reopen in late January 2017.
Sustainable facilities
“Visitors to the camp will get to enjoy great new facilities – upgraded buildings, modern showers and toilet blocks, a laundry and a kitchen,” says Ian Wheeler, Panuku Development Auckland’s Director of Portfolio Management.
“And these will now be run on a much more sustainable basis.”
Materials suited to coastal environment
Rainwater will be collected to supplement the town supply; gas heating replaces the diesel boiler; showers are computer controlled, saving water and expense; and construction and cladding materials are better suited to the coastal environment.
The revamped barbecue areas will be perfect for enjoying some sausages and freshly caught fish, which can be cleaned at the new fish-cleaning station.
Working with iwi
The design is a result of collaboration between Panuku Development Auckland and Auckland Regional Parks, with input from local iwi.
