Auckland Council governance review released

Publish Date : 18 Nov 2016

A review of the performance of Auckland Council’s Governance Framework has been completed and presented to councillors and local board members.

It is expected to be considered in December by both the Governing Body and the 21 Local Boards.

Among the options it discussed is the consideration of moving to fewer local boards, whether to make some councillors ward-based and others 'at large', enabling local boards to have more financial decision making authority, providing a greater level of support to clusters of local boards and potentially allowing local boards to set local rates.

Further work is required to explore these options before the council reaches any final positions on the report’s recommendations.
