Housing New Zealand has started building 59 homes in Northcote, signalling the first stage of the area’s redevelopment.
The government also recently announced stage two of its plans to build 200 homes in the area.
Improving housing and transport
The new housing is part of a wider redevelopment of Northcote. This includes Panuku Development Auckland’s plans to redevelop the town centre and better connect it with local homes via a new cycleway and walking route.
The redevelopment will also add housing in the town centre, and improve community facilities to increase safety.
Community engagement
Panuku is drafting concepts for the town centre, and will engage with the community to ensure that any development is in keeping with local character.
Northcote residents will soon start to see improvements, such as stormwater upgrades, underway in the town centre.
