The rescued dogs of Auckland would like to say Merry Christmas and thank you to the 644 families who found room in their homes and hearts for dogs that had been lost, discarded or mistreated during 2016, giving them new forever homes and families to love.
"Thanks to these generous-hearted people, we've met our target of 100 per cent of adoptable dogs being able to be re-homed," says Tracey Moore, Manager, Animal Management at Auckland Council.
Our puppies would also like to thank all the fellow dog-loving charities and organisations that have worked tirelessly in the best interest of dogs this year.
"We value our special relationships with the Auckland SPCA, HURRAH, the Humane Society, Aran Animal Rescue, K9 Heaven and many other rescue organisations and dog protection services," says Tracey Moore.
"Together with these organisations we have been working to encourage the registering, de-sexing and microchipping of all dogs, to educate dog owners about responsible dog ownership and to protect Aucklanders from dog-related harm through education, the Dog's Story app for children and the Menacing Dogs Amnesty earlier this year,” she says.
