Multipurpose community facility set to become heart of the West

Auckland Council has announced that the new Westgate library and community centre, to be located on Te Pūmanawa Square, will be built by Fletcher Construction. The company was awarded the contract of $26.9 million after a competitive tender process.

Fletcher Construction was selected for its track record and high level of experience in constructing private and public buildings in New Zealand.

Henderson-Massey Local Board Chair, Shane Henderson, is excited about what the facility means for the community.

“This facility will serve Westies old and new and be a welcoming place for the community to meet, learn and have fun."

"Local board members are grateful for all the hard work being put in to making this exciting project come to life.”

With the anticipated completion date intended for 2018, Westgate library and community centre has been designed with the intention of becoming the heart of the area.

It will host everything from exhibitions to community events, and boast features including library spaces, an interactive children’s area, and various digital and creative hubs.
