The new Spark basketball court in Albany's Hooton Reserve is officially open.
Upper Harbour Local Board members, together with Spark and Auckland Council’s project delivery team, shared the honours of cutting the opening ribbon on the brand new court.
Basketball players from Harbour Basketball christened the court with a full court demonstration game.
Upper Harbour Local Board Chair Lisa Whyte says, “Everyone on the board is thrilled to have our much anticipated court ready in time for the summer holidays. We know our young people are going to enjoy playing here and make full usage of it.
“The partnership between Spark and Auckland Council has delivered a fantastic outcome for our young people."
Spark has made free Wi-Fi available at the court so that young people at the court can stay connected with family, friends and other basketballers.
A community celebration event is being planned for 25 January to coincide with the annual Onboard Skating event taking place at Hooton’s Reserve skate park adjacent to the new basketball court.
The free community event will include 3X3 tournaments, shoot-outs, food stalls, music and other activities.
