Auckland library members had the biggest appetite in 2016 for the crime, mystery and thriller genre.
Here are the five most borrowed books of the year.
1. Make Me by Lee Child (4720)
Well out in front is Lee Child’s 20th Jack Reacher book – it was issued over a thousand times more than Girl on the Train.
2. The Girl on The Train by Paula Hawkins (3636)
The 2015 thriller is even more popular with readers 12 months on, having placed at number five on last year's list.
3. Personal by Lee Child (3104)
The 19th installment of the Jack Reacher novels was the second most popular book last year and slips just one place this time round.
4. The Long Haul by Jeff Kinney (2580)
With 164 million copies of the Wimpy Kid series in print, Jeff Kinney continues to entrance young readers, with his ninth book a big hit at Auckland Council Libraries.
5. The Burning Room by Michael Connelly (2287)
The popularity of Michael Connelly’s 2014 detective novel only increases. Last year it was the ninth most borrowed book. Twelve months later it rounds out the top five.
