Auckland Council to submit on East West Link

Last Updated : 31 Jan 2017

On 16 December 2016, the NZ Transport Agency lodged applications for the resource consents required for the East West Link project.

The project is one of the government’s top transport priorities in Auckland, and is an important part of the council’s 30-year Auckland Plan.

It aims to provide the infrastructure necessary to allow the Onehunga-Penrose area to develop; reduce traffic congestion; and improve traffic, freight, and public transport networks in and around the area.

Auckland Council will be preparing a response to the submission via a political reference group involving councillors, local board members, and members of the Independent Māori Statutory Board.

“This project will definitely have an impact on those living nearby,” says Maungakiekie-Tāmaki Ward Councillor Denise Lee.

“It is important that the final design reflects the needs of the city now and many decades from now. We only get one chance at this so please submit your thoughts, just like we as a council will.”

Notification will be open to the public.
