Growing greenways in Devonport-Takapuna

Late last year, Devonport-Takapuna Local Board approved funding for two local walking and cycling connections.

A 3m-wide walking and cycling path between the Sunnynook bus station and Sunnynook Park has been built and is ready for use.

The project involved extending an existing shared path on Kapiti Place along Cockayne Crescent onto Sycamore Drive via a new pedestrian island crossing.

Two street lights were replaced with more powerful ones to improve user safety. Construction was completed in January.

The other project is in Akoranga. It provides a new walking and cycling connection between Rosmini College and Akoranga bus station.

Construction expected to be completed by the end of March.

Devonport-Takapuna Local Board Chair Grant Gillon says, “These local board initiatives provide valuable links to our steadily growing greenways network plan. “We will continue to add more when we can.”
