Auckland Council is working with a small number of residents following a complaint about tree swings on council-owned land.
“We are not running a proactive inspection programme regarding tree swings,” Bylaws and Compliance Manager, Max Wilde, says.
“We did, however, receive a complaint regarding a tree swing on Calgary Street, Sandringham, which we subsequently inspected.
“The complainant was concerned the tree branch was not strong enough to suitably support the swings,” Wilde says.
“The weight associated with the swings’ use was likely to cause damage to the trees they were attached to. This does not comply with the Public Safety and Nuisance Bylaw, which the council has a duty to follow.”
The council requested the property owner remove the swings.
Anyone with concerns or queries about swings in trees on public property should call the council on 09 301 0101.
