Landlords with rentals in the Māngere-Ōtāhuhu, Whau, Puketāpapa and Maungakiekie-Tāmaki Local Board areas could be eligible for a free assessment on their properties along with help to make them warmer and more energy-efficient.
The council's Healthy Rentals project will see eligible landlords with properties in these local board areas, receive a free independent property assessment and confidential report recommending potential improvements.
Those that choose to carry out those improvements may be eligible for subsidies to have insulation, clean heating, bathroom and kitchen extraction and ground sheets installed.
As well as being better for people's health, warm and dry homes are better for your pocket as they are more efficient to heat.
Any landlord with a tenanted rental property in the participating local board areas only, can access the free assessment to get an understanding of what improvements their property may need to make it healthier.
To access subsidies, tenants must be on low incomes or have health problems related to damp or cold housing.
Tenants get free advice and a resource kit to help them save energy and money on their power bills and manage energy and moisture levels in the home. This includes LED light bulbs, draught stoppers and other items.
The council is partnering with Habitat for Humanity, which will carry out the assessments on properties in the Māngere-Ōtāhuhu and Maungakiekie-Tāmaki local board areas and with the Eco-Matters Environment Trust for the Whau and Puketapapa local baord aras.
Now in its fourth year, around 600 homes across the city have benefitted from the Healthy Rentals project.
