When Glen Innes resident Uili Pao-Salu found out he and his family were moving into a new house, he didn’t tell anyone for two weeks.
Uili requested a larger house with Tāmaki Housing at the end of last year and his transfer was accepted. But he wanted to make sure all the paperwork was completed before he broke the news to his wife Loma.
More room for growing family
The couple, who are originally from Samoa, had lived in a two bedroom house in Point England’s Hinaki Street for sixteen years. But they’d outgrown the house. Over the years they’d had four children and Loma’s mother was also living with them.
Loma was excited when she saw the new house. “It has a big kitchen and living room and more space for all our stuff. I also thought I was going to miss my old house because we created a lot of memories there. But it’s good to move on.”

The following day, the couple took their children to see the new place. It’s a moment Uili will never forget. “They were so happy, they ran all through the house.”
The only downside is the garden is smaller, Uili says. But he’s pleased with the move. “For eight or ten years I had been praying to God for a good house. I knew this was the answer to our prayers.”
