With more than 270km of walking and tramping tracks, many of us will be exploring the wonders of our Waitākere Ranges Regional Park this Easter and school holidays.
Hugging Auckland’s west coast, the Waitākere Ranges is home to some of Auckland’s most visited natural treasures including our mighty kauri, who is now seriously threatened by the deadly kauri dieback disease.

As guardian of 16,000 hectares of pristine native forest and coastline, Auckland Council wants to remind everyone to help protect our kauri.
How can I help?
The message is simple – clean your shoes and keep our kauri standing.
You’ll find easy-to-use footwear cleaning stations at track entry points and intersections across the Waitākere Ranges and in other kauri-forested areas.
Our beautiful ‘wild west’ is now the most heavily diseased area in New Zealand, so tread carefully and clean your shoes to help secure our kauri’s survival.
