A $1.2 million community hub in the Albany Domain is set to open in July.
It will have a large meeting room, several smaller rooms and a commercial kitchen.
Auckland Council will run the centre initially, before management is transferred to a community-led model over an 18-month period.
Upper Harbour Local Board Chair Lisa Whyte says, “The aim is to support groups who could take over management of the hub by January 2019."
“Council staff will select the best-suited organisation and will work with them to ensure staff have the skills required to run the facility.”
Albany Ward Councillor John Watson says the facility is fantastic news for Albany. “Albany is one of the fastestgrowing areas in the country, so facilities like this are both appreciated and necessary.”
Bookings for the facility can be made from 1 July.
