Auckland Botanic Gardens is the proud recipient of a Qualmark gold sustainable tourism business award.
More than 950,000 visitors flock to the 64ha garden every year to check out a space that showcases the best international planting styles. Ten thousand plants of all shapes and sizes from all over the world call the gardens home, while the 10ha of native bush give it a local feel.
The Qualmark Award is given to businesses that showcase the uniqueness of New Zealand while also being committed to protecting our natural environment, connecting with local communities and offering top experiences to all visitors.
Growing connections with Aucklanders
It’s no mean feat. But Auckland Botanic Gardens Manager Jack Hobbs reckons they have all of the requirements in spades, and is thrilled with the award.
“Since opening in 1982, the vision for Auckland Botanic Gardens has been to create a space that protects native flora while showcasing international flora," he says.
"We wanted to grow a connection with the Auckland community and highlight the importance of sustainable horticulture. The Qualmark Award is a testament to that vision and the team that has worked so hard to make it happen.”
