Auckland’s local boards want your help to shape the future of your community and to tell them what you value the most.
Since 1996 Mt Albert residents have had access to the Mt Albert Aquatic Centre – but it could be gone for good in a few years.
The aquatic centre, which sits on Mt Albert Grammar School (MAGS) land, was upgraded in 2015 by the Albert-Eden Local Board – but these renovations will only extend its life for another seven years or less.
MAGS want their land back. The school has doubled in size since 1996, and needs space for expansion, and to remove the safety issue of the pool carpark sitting inside the school grounds.
Albert-Eden Local Board Chair Peter Haynes says it’s imperative the community provides feedback on Shape Auckland before consultation finishes on Monday 30 June.
“We strongly believe a pool needs to stay in Mt Albert. We don’t have another council pool in the Albert-Eden area. So it’s really important to strong public support for a replacement to have a strong case for funding for a new pool here.
“Over the past two decades this pool has catered for the community wonderfully. It‘s played a pivotal role in allowing children to learn how to swim. It’s crucial these important life lessons continue in Mt Albert,” says Peter Haynes.
