We are attracting hundreds of new people into our city centre and they contribute to intense economic activity. But they need more ways to get around, jobs, entertainment and a variety of homes to to raise their families in.
Working in the city centre
There are now more than 110,000 jobs in the city centre and there is another 165,000 square metres of commercial real estate planned for construction over the next five years.
Living in the city centre
The city centre is rapidly becoming a residential location, with more than 40,000 people calling it home and choosing a 'zero-minute commute'.
An additional 7000 housing units are in the development pipeline.
Auckland Mayoral Housing Taskforce
The mayor’s recently released housing taskforce stated that improving housing affordability and choice will make Auckland more attractive to workers and businesses. This is necessary to make New Zealand's biggest city more productive, vibrant and wealthier in the long run.
