1. Tūī at the Auckland Botanic Gardens
Spot tipsy tūī getting drunk on blossom nectar at Spring Blossom Valley.
2. Monte Cecilia Park, 72 Hillsborough Road, Hillsborough
Tūī, rosella and kererū have been spotted at Monte Cecilia Park by our keen-eyed readers.
3. Wai-O-Taiki Nature Reserve, 5 Tahaki Road, Waiotaiki Bay
A narrow, bushy reserve that runs along the Tāmaki Estuary, with a track connecting it to the larger Tahuna Torea reserve. Up to 57 bird species have been spotted here by our readers.
4. Manly Park, 68 Laurence Street, Manly
Spot shorebirds while enjoying a day at the beach in Whangaparāoa.
5. Wenderholm Regional Park, 37 Schischka Road, Waiwera
Wenderholm is a great spot for birding, with kererū and tūī plentiful and easy to spot. In the forested areas you may be lucky enough to spot fantail and the occasional morepork. Grey warblers are often heard singing in the trees. Shorebirds such as oyster catchers and the rare and endangered dotterel also make their home in this park.
