A number of new car parks are available in the Mt Albert town centre in the parking area near the Mt Albert rail overbridge and the Ray White real estate office.
The parks on Mt Albert Road are available to the public now and signs indicating they are a tow-away zone have been removed. These bays will be available until required by businesses in the area at which time the tow-away signs will be reinstated.
Albert-Eden Local Board Deputy Chair Glenda Fryer says the extra car parks are a benefit for the community and town centre, as limited parking in the area has caused some issues for locals and businesses.
"The Albert-Eden Local Board has worked with the Mt Albert Business Association and council staff to achieve the additional car parks on New North Road, including a new disabled car park next to the Mt Albert train station overbridge. This is very timely because the long awaited Mt Albert town centre upgrade has seen a reduction of on street car parks" she says.
Albert-Eden Local Board Chair Peter Haynes says the board’s vision in the medium term is to develop a 'village square' on the car park area.
