Māori phrase of the week

Last Updated : 12 Sep 2017

For the week starting Rāhina, te 11 o Mahuru, our phrase is

Mauri mahi, mauri ora (Do the mahi, get the treats; or, Through work we prosper.)

Phrase of the week 11 September

The full whakataukī (Māori proverb) is: 'Mauri mahi, mauri ora; mauri noho, mauri mate' – 'Industry begets prosperity; idleness begets poverty'.

Although we usually only post one word (or phrase) a week, in the spirit of this whakataukī, and to celebrate Māori Language Week, we'll be posting words and phrases, along with updates about events and Māori language resources, every day this week (11-15 September).
