Ten community organisations have been awarded a total of $31,000 through the Henderson-Massey Local Board grant programme.
The round one grant funding awards range from $1000 to $5000 for a number of community organisations.
Henderson-Massey Local Board Chair Shane Henderson says that the programme gives the board the opportunity to support worthwhile community causes.
"We are delighted to have been able to support these community initiatives," he says.
"It is so important that the area has organisations that are helping make a difference and enhancing the area for everyone."
"From funding that will help with Christmas events, keeping children safe with dogs and supporting the vibrant arts scene in our area, these grants will help continue to make Henderson-Massey the fantastic place it is.”
Projects awarded funding through the local board grant programme are:
- Athletics New Zealand Incorporated – Towards printing and signage for the Waitākere Athletics Festival at the Douglas Track and Field, Trusts Arena on 21 March 2019.
- Kids safe with dogs charitable trust - Towards wages for instructors and printing costs for the period 1 November 2018 to 28 February 2019.
- Central Park Henderson Business Association - Towards business survey costs for the Central Park Henderson Business Association over the period 5 November 2018 to 21 December 2018.
- House of Science West Auckland - Towards the purchase costs of two science resource kits and one year’s consumables to apply to programmes in West Auckland schools
- Te Atatū Peninsula Business Association - Towards costs of installing and removing existing Christmas pole banners, and the purchase, installation and removal of decorated Christmas wreaths for the Te Atatū Peninsula Business Association over the period 1 November 2018 to 31 January 2019.
- Community Waitākere Charitable Trust - Towards costs of installation, breakdown, transport, project management and grant administration fees for the movement of artworks between community venues over the period 2 November 2018 to 15 December 2018.
- Big Brothers Big Sisters New Zealand - Towards mentor programme match costs including recruitment, vetting, interviewing, volunteer training, ongoing volunteer, safety training and whānau and child assessments for the period 5 November 2011 to 4 November 2019.
- Corban Estate Arts Centre - Towards costs of planning; implementation; framing, curating and hanging art; and supporting young people for the Kakano Youth Arts Collective end-of-year exhibition over the period 13 December 2018 to 16 December 2018.
- New Zealand Centre for Gifted Education Limited - Towards subsidies for students attending the Auckland West MindPlus programme for the period 29 January 2019 to 20 December 2019.
- New Zealand African Welfare Service Trust - Towards costs for facilitation, mentoring, training, workshops, volunteer expenses, venue hire and administration and coordination for the period 1 November 2018 to 31 October 2019.
Other funding
Henderson-Massey Local Board also agreed to award a total of $7000 in funding for other organisations along with other local boards across Auckland in the multi-board grant programme.
