Auckland Transport has won more awards for its use of technology in projects across the area.
AT has been recognised in three of the six categories at the Association of Local Government Information Management awards.
- Winner of the Best Digital Transformation Award - Business Technology and Customer Central
- Winner of the Best Technical Solution - Whangaparaoa Dynamic Lane project
- Runner-Up for the Excellence in Innovation Award - Using Data for Behaviour Change project
The awards recognise best practice in the IT sector among New Zealand's local authorities.
AT Group Manager Business Technology Solutions, Chris Creighton says these awards reflect Auckland Transport's teamwork.
"Across the organisation, we are working on cutting edge projects to deliver a better service for our customers," he says.
He says the Whangaparaoa Dynamic Lane project is a great example.
"We found a technical solution to effectively double the capacity of Whangaparaoa Road without having to buy any land. And we did it at one-tenth the cost of the alternatives."
AT Travel Demand Manager, Miguel Menezes says the project also involved exceptional collaboration with other agencies.
"The system sees the road operating with two lanes out and one lane in during the morning rush and the opposite configuration in the afternoon. We worked with many suppliers, with a range of skills, and delivered a win for commuters, their travel time has been reduced by up to ten minutes."
He says six other sites around Auckland are now being looked at for the same technology.
