This week, members of Waitematā Local Board, Auckland Transport, Parnell Community Committee and Parnell Business Association enjoyed a first walk on the new pathway connecting Parnell Station with Carlaw Park student village and business centre.

Waitematā Local Board funded the pathway and chairperson Pippa Coom says the pathway provides a much-needed connection from the platform through the Domain to Carlaw Park and on to the university.

“We’re really pleased to make this contribution to the development of Parnell Station. There’s still more work to be done to make the station fully accessible but this is a good step in the right direction,” she says.

Parnell Business Association General Manager Cheryl Adamson said the station plays an important role in invigorating the Auckland suburb.

“We're thrilled the pathway is finally open as it's another step in supporting our objective of Parnell Station becoming a new destination ‘gateway’ to Parnell," she says.

"The Parnell Station needs to become a key transport venue for large events that take place in The Domain such as ASB Tennis and Auckland Lantern Festival and the pathway now provides an ideal link,” says Adamson.

The pathway is a boardwalk construction with anti-skid surfacing. A striking green pole fence was included in the design to provide screening for the Carlaw Park student village residents.

Next steps involve the installation of ticket gates and wayfinding signage which the board is working with Auckland Transport to develop.
