Maungakiekie-Tāmaki Local Board has prioritised the redevelopment of Taniwha Reserve in Glen Innes and is seeking feedback on a draft plan for the reserve.
The plan includes moves to improve water quality and wildlife habitat, create community facilities such as walkways and cycleways, and enhance user experience and the natural character of the landscape.
Taniwha Reserve is currently underutilised and has potential to be improved to increase use and enjoyment of the space.
The key objectives for this reserve are:
- to improve water quality in Omaru Creek
- to improve stormwater capacity and management
- to improve ecological habitat and biodiversity through riparian planting
- to improve safety and surveillance by opening up street frontages, improving sightlines through the reserve and through the addition of lighting
- to improve connectivity by providing pedestrian and cycling routes connecting the reserve to adjacent neighbourhoods
- to improve general amenity values, celebrate heritage and culture and help create a sense of place.
