Around 9000 people attended Parnell Festival of Roses last weekend. The well-loved festival is one of Waitematā Local Board’s flagship events and celebrated its 25th anniversary this year.
Auckland Council Event Organiser Sammy Johnston said a strong team of staff and volunteers rolled out a seamless event, assisted by a great variety and balance of stallholders along with colourful and dynamic entertainers.
“It was great to see so many Aucklanders enjoying such a beautiful spring day in the gardens and I’m really happy to say that the event left no trace, and the park was returned to its serenity by 8pm that evening,” she says.
Waitematā Local Board Arts, Culture and Events Portfolio Lead Richard Northey said the festival has become a much-anticipated part of Auckland’s calendar.
“We’ve received wonderful feedback from people who attended the festival. The weather held out for us and the roses smelled wonderful in full bloom.
“Notching up a quarter of a century is a wonderful achievement and we can’t wait to start planning for 2019,” he says.
