Rodney regional parks are recognised among the best parks in the world. The Green Flag status has been awarded for the third time to Wenderholm Regional Park and the fourth time to Tāwharanui Regional Park.
The Green Flag Award scheme is an international quality mark for parks and green spaces. It represents the very highest levels of park management standards in terms of community involvement, public safety, maintenance and sustainability.
Rodney Ward Councillor Greg Sayers says that access to parks and green open spaces contributes enormously to everyone’s quality of life.
“We’re very fortunate to be able to offer visitors and locals alike a wide range of experiences in Rodney’s nine regional parks. Activities range from day picnics, camping, walking, biking to swimming, surfing and canoeing.
"It’s a huge team effort as rangers and community volunteers work unstintingly to maintain our parks and it’s through their efforts that once again they’ve received the Green Flag Award," he says.
Tāwharanui Regional Park is an open sanctuary to Duvaucel’s geckos, takahe, tieke and kiwi. Dogs are prohibited and the no dog policy is strictly enforced because of the threat to wildlife. For information about regional parks, visit aucklandcouncil.govt.nz
