A recently completed sports field at Barry’s Point Reserve will increase game and training times in the Devonport-Takapuna Local Board area this winter.
This new facility is single, full-size sand carpet grass field with new drainage and irrigation. It also features new lighting to support week-night training sessions.
Devonport-Takapuna Local Board Chair George Wood says it’s a valuable asset for the area.
“We funded the project to increase capacity to help meet growing demand for sports fields in our area,” says Wood.
“This development will enable more hours of play, especially in winter, as a result of its drastically improved surface, drainage and new lighting.
“What we had there before was virtually useless in winter, day or night, as there was no effective drainage,” he says.
The next local area to receive new sports facilities is in Milford with a new basketball half-court now under construction at the Milford Beach Reserve.
Construction of the court is expected to be completed in June.
