Auckland’s arts and culture sector received a boost of $354,642 in grants approved at the May meeting of the Community Development and Safety Committee.
Councillor Cathy Casey, chairperson of the Community Development and Safety Committee, believes that arts and culture are important contributors to the vision of making Auckland the world’s most liveable city.
“Our grants programme helps regional organisations carry out an extensive and diverse portfolio of arts and culture experiences that reach a wide range of Aucklanders,” says Councillor Casey.
Here is a preview of just a few of the projects that received funding from the Regional Arts and Culture grants programme in the latest round of funding.
Massive Company
Massive Company received support for its latest work ‘Sightings’ which will be performed at Q Theatre in July. Massive Company creates a platform for ‘new theatre’ with a focus on emerging and professional actors, directors and writers.
The work comes from real stories and reflects the rich diversity of Aotearoa. By providing access to free workshops and ongoing mentoring, emerging artists can become an integral part of Massive Company.

Little Green Man Productions
Thanks to funding, Little Green Man Productions will be offering a magical glow in the dark puppet show for children in Auckland venues across the region.
Primary and intermediate school students will have the opportunity to experience ‘Heaven and Earth – Rangi and Papa’, the legend of Matariki with a modern-day twist!

The Storylines Auckland Festival Story Tour
The Storylines Auckland Festival Story Tour aims to develop a love of New Zealand literature and literacy among children of all ages, social, economic and cultural backgrounds.
The funding Storylines has received from council will help support a region-wide tour of interactive activities, performances and experiences with students engaging with authors and illustrators.
