Work on upgrading the wastewater network in Glen Innes has started. The project encompasses a series of works including:
- Building a wastewater pipeline, which will act as a storage tunnel
- Replacing the wastewater pump station in Maybury Reserve
- Upgrading local branch sewers, which will run next to Tāmaki College and Glen Innes Aquatic Centre, within sections of Elstree Avenue and Taniwha Street
- Building a new wastewater overflow chamber and outlet.
“Upgrading the wastewater transmission capacity is necessary to serve the growing local population and reduce pipeline failure,” says Maungakiekie-Tāmaki Local Board Chair Chris Makoare.
“It will also reduce wastewater overflows into the local waterways, helping to improve public health and environmental quality.”
Work is due for completion in June 2020.
