Shoppers, café goers and library users can now wait in the shade of a new bus shelter at Māngere Bridge thanks to the Māngere-Ōtāhuhu Local Board’s advocacy.
The new shelter on the corner of Church and Coronation roads has been a focus for the board, particularly Māngere Bridge resident and board member Carrol Elliot.
She says it’s a relief to finally have it erected after years of pushing for the project.
“It’s been on our radar almost as long as the super city has been going. But thanks to support from staff at Auckland Transport, it’s great to finally see all this hard work come to fruition.”
Auckland Transport delivers for community
Auckland Transport’s Bus Services Manager Darek Koper says the council-controlled organisation is pleased to have delivered on the much-wanted new bus shelter for the Māngere Bridge community
“After four years of advocacy, local board member Carrol Elliot finally got the chance to sit down at the new bus shelter," he says.
"In recent years many big projects have been delivered in Māngere and sometimes small local projects are delayed or don’t get delivered.
"But neither Auckland Transport nor member Elliot forgot about this bus stop, and they kept the project going. Now, after a long wait, the Māngere Bridge community has a safe, new shelter right outside their library.”
