Auckland Council has approved a partnership grant of $750,000 to College Rifles Rugby Union Football and Sports Club for the replacement of the two artificial playing surfaces at their Haast Street site in Remuera.
While 41 per cent of rugby participants in the Ōrākei Ward currently play at College Rifles, the existing fields do not meet full-sized rugby standards and the safety zones do not comply with rugby or Auckland Council standards.
“The capacity of our sports field network is a key issue for Auckland, especially in the central suburbs,” says Ōrākei Ward Councillor Desley Simpson. “I have strongly supported this investment, as without it we stood to lose these fields from the network and finding an alternative is almost impossible and not a cheap exercise.
"This partnership represents great value for money for ratepayers and a significant win for our sporting community.”
