The Masonic Hall on Herne Bay’s Argyle Street is to make way for improvements to the neighbouring Salisbury Reserve.
Waitematā Local Board is looking for feedback on two concept designs.
Board chair Pippa Coom says any changes are intended to improve the entrance way to integrate it with the reserve.
The options propose using the area as additional space for the reserve with more trees and lawn, or using part of the reclaimed area for off-street parking.
"It’s very much about enhancing and preserving green space," she said.
The land was purchased by the old Auckland City Council in 2010 to create the entrance way. The board investigated options for retaining the Masonic Hall but there was limited neighbourhood need or support for it.
The possibility of moving the hall to a new site was abandoned after discussions with house-moving companies showed there was limited value in selling it for removal and the cost of making the hall fit for a new user on a new site was prohibitive.
Instead, saleable items will be removed and much of the building will be recycled, with the area cleared for reuse.
"This is an opportunity for residents and the wider community to let us know what they think about the entrance options. Salisbury Reserve is a lovely neighbourhood park so we want to ensure we make the right changes to enhance this green space," Ms Coom says.
