A draft park development plan for Western Springs Te Wai Ōrea Lakeside Park has been released for public feedback.
The Waitematā Local Board says its vision for the park includes improved water quality in the lake and streams, connecting the surrounding areas via paths, and making room for events.
Board chair Pippa Coom says the focus of the plan is on improving the existing state of a well-loved park without making major changes.
"As guardians of the area’s parks, we want to ensure we maximise the benefits our parks and green spaces provide," she said.
"We’re fortunate to work alongside many volunteers who undertake pest control, planting, and generally keep an eye out for their local parks. That reflects how special these places are to people.
"Anyone can let us know what they think about the ideas in the plan, such as bird feeding and an eel sanctuary, until 27 August."
The board oversees more than 80 parks and reserves in the Waitematā area. It also has a co-governance arrangement with the Governing Body for Auckland Domain Pukekawa.
"We’re delighted that the Domain recently won a Bronze Award in the 2018 International Large Urban Parks Awards," Coom says.
"It was the only New Zealand park to receive one of the awards, which recognise quality parks around the world, the skills of the people who manage them, and the value green spaces bring to cities."
Basque Park and Home Street Reserve are the next board sites in line for investment.
