There's now an easy link for people using a train or bus at Pukekohe Station with the opening of a new overbridge.
The bridge goes between the station, near the new park and ride, and Station Road. It is part of the wider Pukekohe Station upgrade which includes the park and ride and the six-bay bus station which opened in June.
Passengers moving from the bus to the train will have faster access across the bridge and lifts connect to the rail platform meaning a smoother, shorter walk.
Franklin Local Board Deputy Chair and transport lead, Andy Baker, says it is essential to provide modern public transport facilities which cater to the needs of everyone.
"The new overbridge will enhance bus services and create significantly better access to the station platform, particularly for those who find using stairs difficult. We have put considerable effort into improving our stations and this is another positive step," he says.
Auckland Transport Delivery Manager South East, Clem Reeve, is pleased with the way the different parts of the upgrade have come together.
"The new overbridge is a key to us providing a fully integrated public transport hub for Pukekohe and the surrounding area. A station like this is critical to ensuring we are offering a service which makes it as easy as possible for all people to use public transport."
The bridge and lifts are open 24 hours a day.
The upgraded Pukekohe Station features:
- six-bay bus stops integrated with the existing Pukekohe Station, new overbridge with lifts to connect the bus and train station, and park-and-ride facilities for 87 vehicles
- additional ticket machines
- a passenger waiting area
- a small retail area
- drop and ride areas
- cycle parking facilities
- 24-hour CCTV security
- improvements to the Manukau Road and Custom Street intersection to aid bus and pedestrian movements.
