Project Forever Waiheke’s draft Sustainable Community and Tourism Strategy has been released for community input.
Earlier this year the Waiheke community was consulted on tourism and development through a workshop and survey. Based on that feedback, a local working group produced a Community Consultation Report and, in consultation with the Waiheke Local Board and Ngāti Paoa, a draft strategy summary.
After further community input, the summary document will be developed into a strategy including goals and actions. When finalised, the strategy will meet one of the key goals of the Waiheke Island Local Board Plan 2018-2021.
The strategy will provide a framework for the board in relation to tourism and community development and will inform board, council, local organisation and resident decision-making.
Giving Your Feedback
The working group wants community input into the draft strategy at two community workshops in the Surfdale Hall, Sunday 23 September at 2pm and Tuesday September 25 at 6.30pm.
At 3pm on Sunday 23 September there will also be a talk by Andrew Rossaak on his work building collaboration among communities and tourism in South African game parks.
You can view the consultation report online and download a copy of the draft strategy document. Feedback can be also submitted through a form on the Forever Waiheke website.
Group responses for organisations can also be made. Email pam.oliver.waiheke@gmail.com to arrange members of the working group to attend a meeting for 30 minutes to answer questions.
