Pest Free Auckland is hosting a Pestival event to kick off Conservation Week at the Aotea Centre this Saturday, 15 September.
The day-long educational and networking event invites community groups and organisations to come together to brainstorm about Auckland’s environmental future.
The day features talks from leading conservationists, mana whenua and academics, including Dr Margaret Stanley and Marie Brown. Conservation Minister Eugenie Sage will open the event with an address on her vision for the community’s role in expanding conservation.
The event offers a chance to connect with like-minded people, chat, share ideas and learn from others’ experience.
Auckland is fortunate to be awash with volunteer groups all doing great things for the environment. With a goal for the city to be pest free by 2050, Auckland Council works with these groups year-round to support them in addressing environmental issues that affect all Aucklanders.
MC Jesse Mulligan, a keen conservationist, will introduce speakers and keep the programme moving. Attendees also have the opportunity to attend breakout sessions covering a diverse range of subjects.
The first session begins at 9am, 15 September, at the Aotea Centre. The event is free to attend but bookings are required - registrations close Wednesday 12 September.
