Rodney waste transfer stations remain open

Northland Waste has accepted Auckland Council’s offer to extend the lease of both the Lawrie Road and Rustybrook Road waste sites and will continue to operate waste services until the end of June 2019.

This agreement will provide a continuous service to the local community for the next nine months. From July 2019, both sites will close for remediation works, with the re-opening dates to be determined once progress of the remediation works is assessed.

Councillor Penny Hulse, Chair of the Environment and Community Committee, is delighted with the outcome that Auckland Council and Northland Waste have reached together.

“Auckland Council was determined to work with Northland Waste to resolve this important community issue," she says.

"By working together, we’ve found a solution that ensures that both sites remain open for residents of the wider Warkworth and Wellsford area. Northland Waste is a private company that has provided waste services to the Rodney area from council leased land.

"With the onset of the lease expiring, and in response to growing concern from the public, Auckland Council has worked with Northland Waste to find a solution.”

Auckland Council will also work with Rodney Local Board to quickly find an interim replacement service during the time that both sites undergo necessary remediation works. The council is committed to working with all parties to ensure local waste providers deliver a continuation of service that meets the needs of the Rodney community.

Details will be shared with the community as soon as options are reviewed and confirmed.
