The 2019 Pride Festival kicks off on Friday 1 February. During the two-week festival Auckland's Rainbow communities will come together to celebrate our unique mix of cultures, sexualities and gender identities.
Auckland Council an official Big Gay Out sponsor
This year, Auckland Council is officially sponsoring the Big Gay Out on Sunday 10 February. Council staff and Rainbow Advisory Panel members will be in attendance to show their support and to showcase some of council’s activities. You can also get yourself face painted with our Love Auckland Love Rainbow hearts, our library team will be telling stories and don’t forget to bring your drink bottle to re-fill with our Watercare team. The day will also feature a special appearance by the Rainbow Machine – a stupendous mix of science and art, design and engineering that’s perfect for taking selfies.
Proud Centres bring drag, dance, film and more
In addition, several Auckland Council arts and community centres will become ‘Proud Centres’ during the festival. Our Proud Centres will create a colourful burst of drag, dance, film, theatre, sport and music events for people to celebrate Pride in their local communities. Visit the Proud Centres website to learn more about these events.
Council facilities light up
More than 60 Auckland Council venues – including libraries, service centres and corporate buildings – will be decorated in Rainbow colours to show support for Auckland’s LGBTIQ+ communities. Auckland Council Libraries are also running a special Pride programme.
