The Epsom Chinese Association will begin holding Tai Chi classes on Wednesdays from March 2019 at the Epsom Community Centre on Gillies Avenue.
It's hoped that the new classes will make it easier for people to access the activity as well as more convenient for the dedicated local group to continue teaching Tai Chi.
“We started the Epsom Chinese Association in 2007. It was just us, a group of volunteers doing morning exercises daily at Melville Park in Epsom. We now hold many different activities every Tuesday and Thursday mornings at Epsom Baptist Church,” says Susan Li Kwan, Chairperson of Epsom Chinese Association.
Albert-Eden Local Board has been a long-time supporter of the Association including providing funding support so that the group can continue their activities to benefit the local community.
“The local board tries to support all of our community,” says local board chair Peter Haynes.
"It’s great to see this group gain a secure base as too many of the newer community groups have struggled because our community facilities are locked up by traditional users."
The group will hold morning Tai Chi at 9am at Melville Park throughout the year except on Christmas Day and New Year's Day.
