Summer is the perfect time for a barbecue with friends and family, and there’s a number of free and bookable barbecues available in parks across the Waitematā ward to get you started.
These barbecues are either electric or wood burning and are accompanied with picnic tables, space suitable for games and a drinking water supply.
Use of council barbecues is on a first-come-first-served basis, but if you have a large group of 10 or more it’s a good idea to book your barbecue in advance to ensure a day full of BBQ fun.
If you’re having a big whānau gathering, head over to Western Springs Lakeside Park. There’s plenty of space to spread out and a playground for the kids to enjoy.
But if you’re after a quieter spot, settle in at Dove Myer Robinson Park for a romantic barbecue picnic beside the roses.
And it's worth noting the recently refurbished Sackville Reserve playground in Grey Lynn too, which has a beautiful new space to cook and eat.
Check out this map to find out all the Waitematā ward parks with barbecues available.
Hot tip: For wood burning BBQs, you’ll need to bring your own wood.
