An application to extend Half Moon Bay Marina has been approved.
Because the extension of the marina was anticipated in the Unitary Plan, the consent was considered by the duty commissioner after a limited notification to the existing mooring holders who will be temporarily relocated during construction. No mooring holders made a submission.
Howick Local Board took no part in planning or decision-making regarding the extension.
As part of considering the application, the commissioner heard evidence from specialists in coastal processes, water quality, noise, ecology, navigation, visual character and amenity, recreation and access.
The application was granted on the basis the potential effects were considered acceptable, subject to the imposition of appropriate consent conditions.
Construction is expected to start in April, with the breakwater taking about a year to build.
