Children are swinging, spinning and climbing for joy over an upgraded playground in Papatoetoe’s Milton Park.
Officially opened by Ōtara-Papatoetoe Local Board recently, the playground features two new base swing seats, four-person seesaw, a spinner bowl, a tunnel mound, a slide and a new timber and rope climbing structure.
An upgraded pathway provides for easier access to the park. The wooden play logs to test people’s balance are already becoming a firm favourite with local children.
Ōtara-Papatoetoe Local Board Chair Lotu Fuli says that the families, especially tamariki, will be able to enjoy a variety of facilities close to their home.
“The new layout of the park will let people of all age groups have outdoor fun, whether it’s the kids who want to get on the swings and slides or the parents who just want to relax under the natural shade of trees.
“The design is based on the feedback we received from our community. We are really pleased that the kids and families have more reasons to stay active, go out and have fun closer to their homes,” she adds.
Future works in the park include new seats being installed over the next few months and a new pathway created through Milton Park to Papatoetoe North School to provide alternate all-weather access for students from the school.
