A charitable organisation with community service on its mind is organising an open day in East Tāmaki to share the work it is doing to support the locals.

An array of activities and entertainment is lined up for Tzu Chi Open Day, including musical sign language, recycling activities, crafts, performances, music, games and much more. And don’t miss the energetic drum performance at the opening.

There will be stations for various environmental projects including eco-enzymes, environmental protection, disaster relief technology and recycling stations, along with vegetarian food and craftwork fundraisings. The event will conclude with volunteer stories followed by free drinks and vegetarian food.

From organising free medical check-ups, numerous park cleanings and rest home visits for Ōtara community to donating technology equipment, books and helping students in Ōtara region with Tzu Chi Scholarship programme, Buddhist Compassion Relief Tzu Chi Foundation NZ has been helping local communities and Taiwanese immigrants for 19 years.

Ōtara Papatoetoe Local Board Chair Lotu Fuli says that the board is proud to serve the diverse communities in the area and of the work it is doing for our communities.

“It’s amazing to see how our diverse communities reciprocate the support and help others around them, hence contributing to a better neighbourhood. And the local board is proud to support such initiatives,” she says.

“It’s important for us to empower our vibrant community through various activities and initiatives.”

The event will be held on Friday 8 March from 10am to 2pm at 9 Springs Road, East Tāmaki and is supported by Ōtara-Papatoetoe Local Board.
