It’s now even easier to explore our beautiful coastline, take the dog for a walk, get the kids to unplug or find a new running route thanks to Akl Paths – a digital platform that allows you to discover more than 200 walking and cycle paths across the region.
Councillor Chris Darby says “Akl Paths is an easy-to-use online tool that allows Aucklanders to pick and choose what path best matches the activity they want to do and encourages residents to get out and about and explore our region.
“The site has something to suit all ages and abilities and supports the significant investment that has been made by the council and government to develop a paths network across the region and provide a better-connected Auckland for walking and cycling.”
Akl Paths has been built in collaboration with corporate partner Downer as part of a broader strategic partnership between Auckland Council, Auckland Transport and the NZ Transport Agency.
“Akl Paths is a great example of Auckland Council and its CCOs partnering with the private sector to fund and support initiatives that make our region a world-class place to live, work and play,” says Councillor Darby.
Routes span parks, streets and beaches across Auckland and provide useful information to users including a map, path duration and location of facilities such as playgrounds, public toilets, basketball courts and pools.
“Akl Paths introduces Aucklanders to walking and cycling through recreation, with the long-term aim of making it safer and easier for more people to get around their local communities, or to commute to work and school by bike and on foot,” says Kathryn King, Auckland Transport’s Walking, Cycling and Road Safety Manager.
Auckland Council General Manager of Parks, Sports and Recreation Mace Ward says, “Akl Paths has been developed based on feedback from Aucklanders who used the pilot site, which went live in February 2018.
“The site has been refined and now profiles over 200 paths for Aucklanders to explore. Each path listed on the site has been individually walked by our team, photographed and provides local knowledge and insider information to help people make the most of their path experience,” he says.
