Three Franklin Local Board transport capital fund projects have been completed, all in Beachlands.
Two of the projects involved kerb and channelling installation, the first on First View Avenue on both sides of the road between Sunkist Bay and Wakelin Road, and the second on Second View Avenue on the north side of the road between Puriri and Cherrie roads.
Both projects came in under budget, as did the third, an upgrade of the Beachlands town centre gardens.
That was good news for the board, which has about $1.2 million available in its fund.
It has a project to improve parking and pedestrian safety around the Pukekohe rail station in the design stages that has early cost estimates of $180,000.
But it is also currently looking at eight potential projects, one with no indication of costs, another with various options requiring different levels of funding, and which together represent about $3 million.
“It’s a constant battle to identify which areas need to take priority,” board chair Angela Fulljames says.
“We are always looking at ways to make our budget go as far as possible. The Beachlands projects all went forward at the same time because we could maximise savings from having contractors in one place at one time.”
The board has asked Auckland Transport for design and costings for electronic warnings signs and smart studs at the Monument and Tourist roads intersection, and to combine four projects into the ‘Beachlands Kerb and Channel Improvements 2019’ project.
That would see new kerb and channel on both sides of Shelley Bay Road between Karaka and Beachlands Road, on the north side of Karaka Road in front of the Domain, on both sides of First View Avenue between the Bell and Pohutukawa road intersections, and on the south side of Second View between Cherrie and Sunkist roads.
The initial estimate to deliver four separate projects was $1 million to $1.2 million.
