A new all-weather coastal path makes it easier for people with wheelchairs and prams to get around Coyle Park in Pt Chevalier and makes the views from the park across the Waitematā to the Auckland Harbour Bridge easier to access.
Albert-Eden Local Board built the path in response to requests and feedback from the community. It was included in the Albert-Eden Greenways Plan.

“We’re really pleased with the positive response we started getting, even before the path was complete,” says Albert-Eden Local Board member Margi Watson.
Coyle Park is a site of significance for mana whenua. It has a large playground and a flying fox, is close to the beach and is well used for large events over summer.
The park is also home to native and exotic trees. Auckland Council staff have ensured that tree roots will not be disturbed by using "geo-mat" sustainable technology to complete the works. Geo-mat sustainable technology involves laying "Geo Webbing" on the ground and filling it with basecourse, which is then compacted before concrete is poured. This technology has also achieved considerable cost savings over alternatives.
