The overall number of graffiti vandalism incidents in the Albert-Eden local board area dropped from 9137 in 2017 to 8615 in 2018.
This trend is linked to the proactive work of Auckland Council contractors in responding to reports of graffiti vandalism.
“The number of graffiti incidents decreased by 10 per cent from July to December 2018 compared to the same period in 2017, and the number of people requesting graffiti removals decreased by 39 per cent,” says Glenda Fryer, deputy chair of Albert-Eden Local Board.
“Less graffiti vandalism means tidier, well-looked after public spaces. It leaves more room for locals to make local spaces their own."
Across Auckland, there has been an 11 per cent decrease in graffiti vandalism. A total of 41,896 graffiti incidents were removed in July to December 2018 compared to 47,267 removed in the same six-month period in 2017.
There has been a 31 per cent decrease in complaints or requests for service (RFS) and 100 per cent of these were removed within the 24-hour target time.
As part of the Auckland-wide graffiti vandalism prevention programme which started in 2013, local communities can be a part of addressing the issue of graffiti in their area through town centre clean ups (TCC), the Adopt-a-Spot project and volunteer initiatives.
