Work will start in May to build an exciting new destination playground on Devonport’s iconic waterfront at Windsor Reserve.
At its centre will be a 7.9-metre play tower inspired by the historic Bean Rock Lighthouse.
Surrounding the large tower will be new coastal themed play equipment and features, including an intertidal reef themed group spinner and rocker, balance springers, crawl tunnel and rope climb, air swing, three bay swing and much, much more.
The new playground will be significantly larger than the old current one and feature equipment that will expand its appeal and suitability to children of all ages, from pre-school up to 12 years of age.
Devonport-Takapuna Local Board Chair George Wood says the new playground will not only be bigger and better, but one of a kind.
“We have invested significantly into a unique design for a unique location,” says Wood.
“We can’t wait to see this take form on the site and really appreciate all the community input and feedback that has helped shape what will become a popular destination playground on the Devonport waterfront.”
Removal of the old playground and construction of the new is expected to take around three months.
A community event celebrating its completion and the opening is expected to take place in early spring.
