Community stalwarts and volunteers have been officially acknowledged with Māngere-Ōtāhuhu Local Board’s Community Volunteer Awards 2019.
More than 150 volunteers were joined by their nominators, whānau and friends at the award ceremony held last night at Fale o Samoa Mangere to celebrate the occasion. Individuals and community groups were recognised for their contribution across six categories including arts, sports, community service, culture, youth, and seniors.
Māngere-Ōtāhuhu Board Chair Lemauga Lydia Sosene says it is wonderful to see more people working together to make a difference, offering their skills and time.
“The local board was overwhelmed with the number of nominations this year. It is obvious from the nominations that more people recognise and value what volunteers bring to our community and want to thank them for their service.
“It shows us how passionate people are for their neighbourhood and their community. Through these awards, we want to acknowledge and show our appreciation for their determination and selfless work.”
