Bradley Lane Illuminated 2019 is just around the corner and Aucklanders are invited to come and enjoy this unique and free community celebration of arts and culture thriving in Tāmaki.

Bradley Lane Illuminated event is now in its fourth year and is fast becoming a highlight on the Auckland arts calendar.

For one incredible night, the Glen Innes town centre gets illuminated with activities, live painting, music and dance performances, all against the backdrop of colourful street art murals. More than 30 outdoor murals adorn the Glen Innes Town Centre, painted by some New Zealand’s best street artists.

"Bradley Lane Illuminated is a raw and dynamic arts and culture event," says Gary Silipa, local artist and curator of the Bradely Lane Illuminated programme.

"It was created within the community to showcase our artists and for our community and wider audience to come and enjoy this unique experience."

This year, Bradley Lane Illuminated includes a show along the main promenade followed by a programme showcasing a strong line-up of cultural and urban artists.

Highlights include breakdancing from Te Oro Breaking Crew & Friends, beatboxing master King Homeboy, DMC Scratch Champion DJ Wil.K The Baddist, kapa haka group Te Āmiorangi from Ruapotaka Marae, dance meets comedy with Jandel J & the Funky Friends and more.

On the night, Te Oro will be exhibiting a visual art exhibition not to be missed and visitors will be invited to take a free guided tour of the street art to learn more about the artists and stories behind the murals.

“Maungakiekie Tāmaki Local Board really cherishes our relationship with The Good The Bad Charitable Trust and the work that they do helping to improve and beautify our communities,” explains Chris Makoare Chair of Maungkiekie Tāmaki Local Board.

"It's great to be able to help enable local artist opportunities and events such as the Bradley Lane Illuminate is an awesome showcase of what is being achieved."

Bradley Lane Illuminated event will run from 5.30pm until 9pm on Saturday 13 April at Te Oro Community Centre, Bradley Lane and the Glen Innes town centre.
